When I look up the word on the dictionary, I get
sys·tem·ic
adj.
- Of or relating to systems or a system.
-
- Relating to or affecting the entire body or an entire organism: systemic symptoms; a systemic poison.
- Relating to or affecting a particular body system, especially the nervous system: a systemic lesion.
- Physiology Of or relating to systemic circulation.
However, this wiki apparently uses it as a noun.
I tend to understand the term system in the sense of Bertalanffy's General System Theory, that explains systemic in a medical sense, as well as operating system in the IT sense, and much more. In the latter sense, the term system apparently also covers this use of systemic as a noun. However, the term system is already used in the wiki for a slightly different concept. This includes the User Surveys, where the Internet being a systemic is a rather puzzling question for newcomers.
I would suggest to change term, and/or provide a definition of it. Ale2009 15:44, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Ooops, wikipedia has a page for Systemics, where they hold that Systemics can be considered an alternative name for all research related to General Systems Theory. I had suspected something like that. My note that the term is used improperly still applies, because proper use would imply it is the given name of a scientific theory (spelled with a capital leading S and a trailing s) rather than the object that that science studies. In addition, I think most people ignores the term anyway. Possibly, using a two- or three- words name that captures the intended meaning would make for a more understandable wiki. Good point. I am using "systemic" as in French and [systemic] in Wikipedia. The way a system is built or builds itselfs. This is in line with the conception of virtuality based upon a chosen axiology or given perspective, while reality is based upon universal axiology. I add the word to the Glossary to be documented.
